In Beijing on the 19th, a man at the B exit of the Hujialou subway station held a female security check point worker hostage at knife-point. After over 70 minutes of unsuccessful negotiations, and as the suspect was harming the hostage, a Blue Word Commando Unit sniper of the Beijing City Public Security Bureau SWAT Team made decisively open fired, shot the suspect dead, and safely rescued the hostage. Four Italian police officers, along with their Chinese counterparts, began joint patrolling operations in Beijing on Monday afternoon. Ahead of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which falls on Thursday, police at Beijing' s Capital International Airport invited ten curious fans to meet their canine unit. The airport' s canine unit was established in June 2008 and is the country' s first aviation security canine unit. The dogs were also used to conduct security checks for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics and the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
