Four Italian police officers, along with their Chinese counterparts, began joint patrolling operations in Beijing on Monday afternoon. The move came after the two countries' police authorities launched the project in Beijing on Monday. It is the first time that the Chinese police officers have collaborated with foreign cops patrolling in China. According to a bilateral agreement reached by the two governments in 2014, the Italian police officers, without being armed, will handle issues related to Italian tourists and patrol touristic areas in Beijing and Shanghai. The project will last for two weeks from April 24 to May 7. In recent years, cultural and people-to-people exchanges have become much more frequent between China and Italy and more than three million Chinese choose Italy for sightseeing and study every year. To better guarantee the safety of Chinese and Italians overseas, the two governments decided to launch joint police patrols during peak tourist seasons as part of the efforts to combat transnational crimes. The first police patrol of such a kind was carried out by Chinese police in Italy in May 2016. http://www.cctvplus.com/news/20170425/8048761.shtml#!language=1 Subscribe us on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CCTVPlus CCTV+ official website: http://www.cctvplus.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/cctv-news-content Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewsContent.CCTVPLUS Twitter: https://twitter.com/CCTV_Plus

Wide shot of Qiang walking away STORYLINE Beijing's police, long used to displays of force, put the force on display on Sunday at their first-ever open house, allowing the public - and foreign journalists - rare access to China's fast growing law enforcement agency. From SWAT teams to bomb disposal units, officers gave the public a first hand experience of what it's like to handle a rifle or put on heavy bomb-proof equipment. Though some effort was put to showcasing Beijing's latest crime-fighting technology, such as tackling internet crime, much of the open day was devoted to putting a human face to the Public Security Bureau. Members of the 50-thousand-strong force said they hoped the event would build trust with citizens and improve their image, tarnished by perceptions of corruption and brutality. The open house seemed to go down well with the thousands of visitors who gathered in droves around the martial arts demonstrations and displays of high-tech equipment. China's People's Liberation Army has traditionally been in charge of tackling major domestic security threats. The Tiananmen Square crackdown in 1989 often serves as a brutal reminder of the measures the PLA is willing to take in the face of a perceived threat against the state and the Communist Party. However, some observers say that increased spending in military technology means China is looking to create a more sophisticated, hi-tech army with off-shore capabilities. And as the PLA looks outwards and beyond China's borders, the country is now forced to reinforce domestic security agencies to enforce the law. China has an estimated police force of one point six (M) million - a ratio of one officer for every thousand civilians.
